Sip of History
20th-21st Centuries: Growing the Coffee Community in Europe
Europe’s coffee culture saw a major revival as the U.S. “third wave” movement spread across the continent. European coffee lovers began treating coffee like an artisanal product—valuing origin, craftsmanship, and expert brewing. Cities like Berlin, Copenhagen, and Milan became specialty-coffee hotspots, where cafés offer cupping sessions, workshops, and unique brewing experiences. By 2018, Europe’s coffee market reached €38 billion, driven by a growing love for high-quality, artisanal coffee.
Coffee Buzz
Popular coffee flavours this year include creamy pistachio, rich brown sugar, and fruity cascara, all trending across European cafés. Floral notes like lavender and rose are also making a comeback, while classics such as hazelnut, vanilla, and salted caramel remain favourites. Warm spices like cardamom and cinnamon with honey are rising too, especially among wellness-focused coffee lovers.
