Sip of History
15th–16th Centuries: Coffee Culture on the Arabian Peninsula
Coffee’s commercial story began in Yemen in the 15th century and soon spread across Iran, Egypt, Syria, and Turkey. Coffee houses, or qahveh khaneh, became popular gathering spots where people drank coffee, played games, listened to music, and exchanged news—earning the nickname “Schools of the Wise.”
Pilgrims visiting Mecca carried the “wine of Araby” and the idea of coffee houses back to their homelands, helping spread coffee culture across regions.

Sippable Fact
Cold brew vs. iced coffee—both are great, but not the same! Iced coffee is brewed hot, then cooled, while cold brew is made with cool water from the start. Cold brew tends to be smoother and less bitter, so whether at home or in a café, know which one you’re ordering.
